Betrayed by the Depressed

wpauserHf8o4tkG 10/04/2025

I was reborn on the day my wife was diagnosed with depression.

At this moment, she was clutching the diagnosis paper, crying her eyes out.

“Tyler, what are we going to do? I’m still so young, and now I’ve been diagnosed with

depression…”

She looked so pitiful with her tears and snot, but I felt nothing. In my previous life,

this was exactly how she deceived me.

Then, as if on cue, she shifted to blaming me: “It’s all your fault! If you hadn’t been

working all the time and ignoring me, I wouldn’t have gotten sick!”

I let out a cold, bitter chuckle. If her family hadn’t pressured me for an outrageous

amount of money when we got married, I wouldn’t have had to work myself to the

bone every day just to keep us afloat.

When I remained silent, she quickly put on a fearful expression: “Tyler, do you think

I’m going to die here alone? I’m so scared…”

I coldly pulled my hand away. “Lily, I provide everything for you, make sure you’re

comfortable at home, and you still managed to get depression? That’s pretty

pathetic.”

“Don’t you know how exhausting my work is every day? And you’re complaining

about a little sickness?”

Her sobbing came to an abrupt stop, clearly not expecting this reaction from me.

Tears hung awkwardly at the corners of her eyes, unsure whether to fall or retreat.

I could only curse myself for being so foolish in my past life, for not seeing through

her scheme, and instead, feeling sorry for her!

I was the one out there working hard to make money while she lived a pampered life

at home. And yet, I actually pitied her!

Ridiculous. I was such an idiot.I guess I brought this on myself, letting them play me

until there was nothing left.

“Tyler… I’m not blaming you, I just…” She quickly switched to a hurt expression after

realizing her mistake.

“Do you even have the right to blame me?” I cut her off, firing back.

She looked even more hurt, and in the past, I was head over heels for that look. Now,

it just disgusted me.

Finally, she tried a different approach.

“Tyler, that’s not what I meant. I… I’m just scared.”

She claimed to be scared. “Can I come to work with you? I promise… I won’t get in

your way, I swear.”

After she pleaded over and over, I finally agreed. Not because I wanted to, but

because I couldn’t let this go.Sure, I could divorce her right now, but just thinking

about how she played me for a fool in my past life makes my blood boil.

That’s why I won’t stop until I’ve taken my revenge, step by step, pushing them both

to the brink. It’s the only way I’ll find any peace.

A cold, determined glint flashed in my eyes…

Dripping with water, I climbed into bed, and Lily immediately sidled up to me, trying

to ignite some spark by running her hand across my chest. I grabbed her restless

hand and said, "I have work tomorrow. I'm too tired." Then I turned away, not giving

her any more attention.

Now, just her touch makes my skin crawl! Especially when I think about her sleeping

with another man behind my back… I can barely control my rage. It’s not about love

—it’s about a man’s pride.

Whenever I think about my past life, it makes my liver ache with anger. I worked hard

every day, driving her to and from work, only to find out she was seeking thrills with

another man behind my back, playing me for a fool!

Later, she even teamed up with Karen, emptied my bank accounts, and framed me,

landing me in prison. Meanwhile, my elderly mother was left alone with no one to

care for her, and I died with regret and anger.

Every time I think about it, the hatred in me burns stronger! This time around, I

won’t let those two get away with it!

The next morning, Lily eagerly got up and started getting all dolled up. I can’t believe

I was so blind before, never noticing anything out of the ordinary. Looking at her

now, it’s obvious she’s not dressing up for work—she’s getting ready to meet up with

her lover. When she caught me staring, she playfully pouted and said, "Stop being

silly.“

A wave of goosebumps hit me: “Why are you all dolled up just to go to the office? It’s

not like you’re going out to sell yourself!”

An awkward look flashed across her face. “Oh, come on, I just don’t want to

embarrass you. We’re running late, let’s go.”

There was a glimmer of eagerness and excitement in her eyes, and I knew exactly

why. I glanced at the bag of pills on the table, then told her to wait downstairs while I

went to the bathroom first.

When we got to the office, Lily greeted every colleague with her usual sweet tone.

They all kept telling me how lucky I was to have such a stunning wife.

I let out a cold chuckle and shook my head, not bothering to respond. Luck? More

like a curse.

Before long, Karen showed up. She’s the assistant manager, just one level below me.

The two of them exchanged sly glances like I was invisible.

“Karen, is something wrong with your eye? You keep blinking,” I said, feigning

innocence.

I watched as his expression cracked just a little. She forced a smile. “No… no, it’s just

some dust from the walk over.”

I nodded, pretending to understand. “Ah, I see. You know, the company pays you well

enough, but you’re still biking to work? No woman’s going to be impressed by that,

right, honey?”

Lily froze, unsure whether to agree or not.

Karen quickly tried to smooth things over. “Tyler, you’re absolutely right…

absolutely.”

I couldn’t be bothered with these two cheaters, so I headed to my office to start the

day.

At lunch, I ordered Lily some plain congee and vegetables while I enjoyed a hearty

meal of meat and fish. I told her it was because she was sick and needed to eat light.

All she could do was watch.

After eating, I pulled out a bunch of pill bottles from my bag. “Time for your meds,

darling.”

I carefully measured out the doses, lining up over twenty pills in front of her.Should I

call her smart or foolish? To gain sympathy, she brought back an entire bag of meds

without thinking it through, and now she’s trapped by her own actions.

Her expression turned uneasy. “Just… just leave them there. I’ll take them later!”

But there was no way I was letting her off that easily. I brought the pills right up to

her. “Come on, don’t be stubborn. Take your medicine.”

As I moved to put the pills in her mouth, she suddenly snapped, swatting my hand

away, sending the pills scattering all over the floor.

“Look at you, getting worse by the day.” I didn’t get angry, just calmly started picking

up the pills one by one.

“Here, let me help you. If you’re sick, you need to take your medicine, right?”

I fed her the pills from the floor, one by one. She had no choice but to swallow them,

and not long after, she bolted out of the room.

I scoffed, grabbing the disinfectant nearby to clean my hands.Every time I touch this

woman, I feel disgusted.

Later, I snuck over to the bathroom and heard the sound of retching inside. Sure

enough, she was in there making herself vomit.

Then I heard Karen's voice: "Hang in there, babe, just a little longer."

"How much longer do I have to endure this? Don’t you get it?" Lily snapped, clearly

upset. "That idiot force-fed me so many pills, I’m going to end up in serious trouble!"

Karen soothed her with sweet words until Lily calmed down.

Then Karen’s voice turned sleazy: "So, how does it feel to be sent to your lover by

your own husband?"

Lily giggled and playfully scolded him, clearly turning this whole situation into their

twisted version of fun.

I quietly pressed the record button on my phone. How shameless.

But go ahead, laugh while you can.

Starting today, I’ll make sure you never laugh again!

Half an hour later, Lily returned, her face flushed in a way that left no doubt about

what those two had been up to.

"Your lips… why are they swollen?" I asked.

She froze, guilt flashing across her face as she pulled out a compact mirror. "Are

they? Maybe it’s just a cold sore or something."

I nodded indifferently, not saying anything more.

From then on, I made sure to give her the pills on schedule every day. I wanted to see

how long she could keep this up! Even a healthy person would get sick taking that

many pills.

She started to catch on and changed tactics. She handed me another doctor’s note,

claiming her condition had worsened, looking all frantic: "Honey, you’re not going to

abandon me, are you?"

I allowed a small smile to tug at the corners of my lips. It seemed like she couldn’t

wait any longer. “Of course not,” I replied.

Abandoning you wouldn’t even begin to ease the hatred I feel inside.

“But I don’t believe you. I’m so scared…” She leaned on my shoulder, crying her heart

out, looking as pitiful as ever.

A flash of disgust crossed my face as I pushed her away. “Careful, don’t cry on my suit

—it’s expensive.”

Her sobs grew louder. “See? I knew it, men are all heartless! You’re already fed up

with me!”

I was utterly fed up with her constant crying. I threw out a casual, “Believe what you

want,” and turned to leave.

Realizing I wasn’t taking the bait, she looked a bit defeated, but she kept up the act.

“Honey, I… I believe you, but… couldn’t you let me manage our finances? It would

really give me peace of mind.”

“Where do you get the nerve?”

Her face froze. “W-what?”

“Think about it. The food you eat, the clothes you wear—everything is paid for by

me. Every single brick and tile in this house was earned by me. So… where do you get

the nerve to ask?”

Her eyes welled up with tears as she stammered, but in the end, she couldn’t find a

single word to say.

I had no interest in continuing this charade, so I headed off to work.

But she wasn’t ready to give up. Later, she brought up wanting to see a therapist,

claiming she needed professional counseling. Naturally, it would be expensive.

“Honey, you want me to get better, right?”

I feigned hesitation. “I think the meds are doing a good job of keeping things under

control. Why waste money on that? Don’t you realize how hard I work to make that

money?”

“Besides… you don’t have any self-harm tendencies right now. Let’s talk about it if

that ever changes.”

With that, I walked away, hoping she’d catch my hint and not disappoint me.

Sure enough, when I got home, I found Lily with her wrists slashed.

She hadn’t really committed, though—the blood was barely trickling out, like

squeezing toothpaste from a tube.

She put on a dramatic show. “Honey, I… I just can’t control myself. Am I going to

die?”

I let out a sudden laugh. “You’ve lost less blood than I would from squashing a

mosquito. Don’t worry, you’re not going to die.”

She cried awkwardly, “Tyler, how can you be like this?”

I scratched my ear, pretending to be annoyed. “Alright, stop crying. I’ll take you to the

hospital tomorrow.”

Hearing that, she finally stopped crying, satisfied enough to go to sleep without even

bothering to bandage her wrist.

The next morning, she was up early, practically beaming with excitement—you’d

think she was heading off to meet a lover.

In the car:

“Tyler, you’re going the wrong way. The counseling center isn’t in this direction. Turn

around…”

“Who said we were going there? You’ve got self-harm tendencies now, so we’re

going to the hospital.”

She wanted to object but couldn’t find the words. She was on edge the entire ride,

and it wasn’t until I parked in front of a psychiatric hospital that she finally lost it.

“Tyler! Why are you bringing me here? I’m not crazy!”

The staff here were clearly used to dealing with cases like hers. I asked a nurse to

keep an eye on her while I went to check her in and pay for the visit. Then, I led her

into the consultation room.

She kept insisting that there was nothing wrong with her, but the doctor wasn’t

buying it. I handed over the diagnosis papers. “These are her previous records.

Lately, she’s been self-harming, and today her mood is especially unstable.”

The records were legitimate—I had checked. No idea where she got them from, but I

might as well use them.

The doctor asked Lily some questions, but she was completely uncooperative. After a

long while, the doctor sighed. “Your wife seems to be experiencing a mental disorder

triggered by severe depression…”

"Does that mean she needs to be hospitalized? I'll go ahead and get her admitted!" I

couldn't help but let a smile creep onto my face—it's like even God is on my side.
